VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO LIPSCOMB IN ASUN OPENER

NASHVILLE, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama volleyball team struggled to find offense against host Lipscomb on Tuesday falling 3-0 in its ASUN opener. The Lions managed just 24 kills in the 25-11, 25-20, 25-13 loss to fall to 2-8 on the season with an 0-1 start to ASUN play.
 
The Bisons (6-7 overall, 1-0 ASUN) used a dominating performance in the first set to set the tone for the match. Lipscomb hit .417 as a team while the Lions were held to seven kills on 31 swings. North Alabama had its best showing in the second set, staying within striking distance before the home team pulled away late.
 
In the final frame, UNA held an early 9-7 lead before Lipscomb closed the match on an 18-4 run.
 
Malaisia Stallworth led the Lions with six kills. Jayden Davila-McClary added her seventh double-double of the year with 11 assists and 10 digs. Emma Ellis also recorded 11 assists while Genesis Benitez notched a team-high 12 digs.
 
UNA will return to Florence for its home opener on Sunday against Kennesaw State. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
