MEMPHIS, Tenn., – Memphis used strong serving and solid play at the net to record a 3-0 win over the University of North Alabama volleyball team Saturday in the final match of the Tiger Invitational. UNA fell to 2-7 on the season following the 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 decision.

For the match, the host Tigers recorded 14 service aces and also notched nine blocks. UNA hit .083 on the day.

Memphis hit .333 in the opening set, pulling away for the five-point victory. Catie Ladner had three kills in the first set to lead the Lions.

The second and third sets featured a similar script. North Alabama held early leads in each frame before the Tigers grabbed control with big runs. The Lions led 3-1 in the second set before Memphis recorded five service aces during a 13-2 run. In the final game, the Lions led 4-2 before a 17-3 run by the home team gave the Tigers a 19-7 lead.

Malaisia Stallworth led UNA with six kills. Emma Ellis turned in a double-double with 10 assists and 13 digs while Genesis Benitez also reached double figures in the category with 10 digs. Jayden Davila-McClary added nine assists and four digs and was named to the all-tournament team.

UNA will now turn its attention to ASUN Conference play, beginning with a road match on Sept. 18 at Lipscomb. The Lions will return to Flowers Hall for their first home match on Sept. 23 against Kennesaw State.
