DENVER, Colo., – Ivy and Emma Wallen combined for 56 points as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team opened play at the Denver Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic with an 80-65 win over Alabama A&M. UNA (4-2) will remain on the campus of the University of Denver to play UC-Irvine Saturday at 2 p.m.

Against Alabama A&M, UNA took control with a 15-2 run to close the first quarter. Brittany Panetti broke an 8-8 tie with a basket at the 5:06 mark and a three-point basket by Emma Wallen in the closing seconds gave the Lions a 23-10 lead. UNA led by as many as 19 in the second quarter before taking a 43-28 lead into the half.

The Bulldogs would get no closer than 11 points over the final two quarters. After an AAUM basket cut the lead to 62-51 early in the fourth quarter, the Lions responded with eight straight points, capped by a three-pointer by Kenysha Coulson.

A&M again got the deficit to 11 with 1:25 remaining. UNA, however, made six straight free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Both Wallen sisters connected on nine shots from the floor, including five treys each. Ivy Wallen led all scorers with 33 points. She added a 10-for-12 showing from the free throw line and moved into third place on UNA's all-time scoring list at 1,440 career points. Emma Wallen finished with 23 points for the game.

Dariauna Lewis led Alabama A&M (2-4) with 26 points.
