UNA WOMEN FALL AT FLORIDA GULF COAST

FORT MYERS, Fla., – Florida Gulf Coast maintained first place in the ASUN Conference standings with a 76-51 home win Tuesday over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team. UNA committed a season-high 29 turnovers and lost for the first time in seven games. The Lions fall to 16-3 overall and 7-2 in ASUN play with both conference defeats coming at the hands of FGCU.
 
The Eagles took control with a dominating second quarter, outscoring UNA 17-4 in the period. UNA did not hit a field goal in the quarter while the home went 6-of-17 from the floor with four three-pointers. FGCU led 37-16 at the break.
 
The Eagles led by as many as 31 in the second half. A jumper with 4:07 remaining in the third quarter gave FGCU a 54-24 lead. The Lions trailed 57-34 heading into the final period.
 
UNA made its best run of the game in the fourth quarter. Olivia Graham opened the period with a three-point basket and the Lions used a 12-2 run to cut the lead to 16 points. A basket by Emma Wallen made the score 59-43 with 6:39 remaining, but UNA would get no closer.
 
After the two teams traded baskets, FGCU responded with 15 straight points to put the game out of reach. A basket at the 3:00 mark gave the Eagles a 76-45 lead.
 
Ivy Wallen led UNA with 19 points. Kenysha Coulson added 16 points while Brittany Panetti pulled down 10 rebounds.
 
Tytionia Adderly led Florida Gulf Coast (18-4 overall, 9-0 ASUN) with a career-high 29 points and 16 rebounds. The Eagles shot 42.1 percent for the game while UNA connected on 39 percent from the floor. FGCU, however, took 35 more
 
UNA will return home to host North Florida on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
