LIONS BEACH VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO COASTAL CAROLINA

FLORENCE – Coastal Carolina remained undefeated in ASUN Conference play with a pair of road wins at the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team on Friday. The two losses snapped a four-match winning streak for UNA, which falls to 9-9 on the season and 3-3 in ASUN competition.

In the opening match, the two teams split wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. After UNA fell behind 1-0, Ava Carnley and Libby jump posted a 21-14, 21-13 victory at No. 4 to tie the score. The Chanticleers, however, clinched the match with two more wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

With the match already decided, the No. 1 spot was still in doubt. After winning the opening set 21-19, Sophia Brandstetter and Paula Klemperer dropped the second set 21-17 before edging CCU's Sydney Alvis and Leah Hardeman 18-16 in the final frame. It was the first loss of the season in ASUN play for the Coastal Carolina duo.

The Chanticleers (19-9 overall, 8-0 ASUN) wasted little time taking control in the second match. Three straight wins clinched the early victory before the visitors came away with the 4-1 triumph.

Ashtyn Kapovich and Joise Maldonado provided the lone point for the Lions, rallying for an 18-21, 21-15, 16-14 victory at the No. 4 position.

UNA will host a pair of matches against Morehead State on Saturday. Action is set to begin at noon at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts.
