VOLLEYBALL LIONS SWEEP MANHATTAN AT CHATTANOOGA CLASSIC

CLEVELAND, Tenn., - After rallying from a big deficit to win the opening set, the University of North Alabama volleyball team used the momentum to post two more victories and secure a 3-0 sweep over Manhattan College Friday to open play at the Chattanooga Classic. The 26-24, 25-19, 25-16 victory gives UNA a 2-5 record on the season.

The Lions trailed 18-11 in the opening frame and later faced a 24-20 deficit before scoring six straight points to secure the win. Riding the serve of freshman Alyssa Dutton, UNA began the rally. After fighting off three straight set points to force a Manhattan timeout, the Lions got a back row kill from Dutton to tie the game at 24-24.

Another kill by Maggie Sullivan then gave North Alabama its first lead since scoring the first point of the match. Dutton then recorded her eighth kill of the opening frame to end the set and give UNA the early lead.

In the second set, UNA trailed 14-10 before taking control. A kill by Anna Katherine Griggs gave the Lions their first lead at 16-15 and the Lions never trailed again. North Alabama held the Jaspers to a .069 hitting percentage in the frame to grab a 2-0 overall lead.

The Lions led wire to wire in the final set. Griggs had five kills in the game as UNA completed the sweep.

Dutton reached double figures for the third time this year with a match-high 13 kills. Griggs and Morgan Madasz each finished with eight kills on the day. Breylee Linder added 29 assists.

UNA will play Tennessee Tech at 9 a.m. (Central) on Saturday before wrapping up play at the event with a 6 p.m. showdown against host Chattanooga.
