LIONS RALLY TO TOP LIPSCOMB 82-69

NASHVILLE, Tenn – Three players reached double figures in scoring as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team picked up a key 82-69 win at Lipscomb on Saturday. The win gives the Lions a 7-10 overall record and evens the teams ASUN Conference mark at 2-2 on the year.
 
The victory also moved UNA into third place in the ASUN standings. Both losses are against the top two teams.
 
Against Lipscomb, the Lions trailed 34-32 at the half, but shot 48.1 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes of play. UNA trailed by as many as nine in the second half before closing the game on a 30-9 run.
 
North Alabama began the comeback after a basket by the Bisons gave the home team a 60-52 lead with 9:07 remaining. Lipscomb would not hit a shot from the floor for the next 7:53 of playing time. After UNA closed the gap to a single point, a three-pointer by Jamari Blackmon gave the Lions their first lead of the second half.
 
The basket put UNA ahead 65-63 with 4:54 to play. The Bisons added a free throw on the ensuing possession but could never tie or regain the lead.
 
Christian Agnew led the Lions with 20 points, including 14 in the second half. He was also 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Blackmon hit five treys and added 19 points while Mervin James rounded out the top UNA scorers with 16 points. The trio combined to score 39 second-half points, outscoring Lipscomb by four.
 
Emanuel Littles added 14 rebounds for North Alabama. His putback dunk in the closing seconds of the first half cut the Lipscomb lead to two.
 
For the game, Greg Jones led Lipscomb (7-10 overall, 2-2 ASUN) with a game-high 21 points.
 
North Alabama held a 40-36 rebounding edge and finished the game 10-for-22 from three-point range.
 
UNA will host Stetson on Jan. 18. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
