FLORENCE – University of North Alabama men's basketball head coach Tony Pujol has announced the addition of two players to the program. True freshman Dallas Howell has enrolled and will be eligible to play in January, while current pre standout Daniel Ortiz has signed a national letter of intent to join the Lions in the 2021-22 season.

Howell was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at Class 7A Enterprise High School. The 6-7 forward scored 1,078 career points, averaging 15.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during his senior year. He received a Class 7A All-State honorable mention as a sophomore and second-team selection as a junior. He was also a three-time area all-tournament pick, earned regional all-tournament honors as a junior and was selected to play in the AHSAA North/South All-Star Game.

"We are excited to welcome Dallas and his family to our program at North Alabama," said Pujol. Dallas is an extremely skilled perimeter player with a high basketball IQ. He is an elite shooter with range to the NBA 3-point line. His versatility allows him to guard multiple positions on the floor and he is a great fit for our program both on and off the court."

Ortiz is in his senior year at Calvary Baptist in Louisiana. Ranked No. 4 in the state by PrepHoops, the shooting guard averaged 21 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game as a junior last season. He has 1,040 career points and has earned first team all-district and all-city honors. He was also a second team LHSCBA All-State selection.

"We are extremely excited to have Daniel join the men's basketball family," Pujol added. "He brings a skill set, versatility and a toughness to the program. He is a lead guard who can score in all three levels. Our fan base is really going to enjoy the energy and competitiveness that Daniel will bring us."
