NORTH FLORIDA RALLIES TO TOP UNA WOMEN 67-65

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – North Florida overcame a 20-point deficit in the second half to rally for a 67-65 win over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at UNF Arena. The loss breaks a three-game winning streak for UNA, which falls to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in ASUN Conference games.
 
UNA led 40-28 at the half and stretched the lead to 51-31 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Ospreys, however, closed the gap to 54-41 by the end of the period and outscored the Lions 19-8 in the final frame.
 
North Alabama went 2-for-17 from the floor in the fourth quarter, including an 0-for-6 mark from three-point range. UNA missed its first nine shots of the quarter and didn't score for the first 5:07 of playing time while the home team made its move.
 
North Florida got within a single point midway through the period when a basket by Kenysha Coulson made the score 59-56 with 4:27 remaining. Ivy Wallen hit 1-of-2 free throws to extend the lead to four, but UNF got a three-pointer and a jumper in the lane to go ahead 61-60 at the 2:02 mark.
 
The Ospreys stretched the lead to 65-62 in the final minute of play before Coulson hit 1-of-2 foul shots and the Lions forced a five-second turnover on the ensuing inbounds play.
 
Wallen missed from the top of the key and UNF secured the rebound and hit two free throws with five seconds to play. A layup by Wallen at the buzzer accounted for the final score.
 
Emma Wallen hit five three-pointers and finished with 17 points to lead UNA. Olivia Noah and Jaida Bond added 14 points each. Janesha Green led North Florida (14-11 overall, 7-5 ASUN) with a game-high 19 points.
 
UNA will play at Stetson on Monday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (CST) at the Edmunds Center on the Stetson campus in DeLand, Fla.
