LIPSCOMB EDGES NORTH ALABAMA MEN 73-71

FLORENCE – Four players reached double figures for Lipscomb as the Bisons held off North Alabama 73-71 Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The second straight loss leaves UNA with a 10-13 overall record and 5-5 mark in ASUN Conference action.
 
After trailing by 10 at the break, UNA rallied to take a 56-52 lead midway through the second half. The two teams traded punches down the stretch until the visitors grabbed a 71-66 lead with 1:30 remaining.
 
UNA responded with a basket by Christian Agnew, then followed a Lipscomb free throw with a three-pointer by James Anderson to make the score 72-71 in the final minute of play. The Bisons again hit 1-of-2 foul shots to take a two-point lead and the Lions missed a pair of three-point attempts in the closing seconds.
 
North Alabama shot 42.4 percent from the floor but connected on just 6-of-22 three-point attempts on the night. The Lions also struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 9-of-17 attempts.
 
The Bisons were able to build the double-digit lead in the first half thanks to 15 points from KJ Johnson. His jumper with 1:32 remaining gave the visitors a 12-point lead. UNA got a basket by Emanuel Littles to make the score 39-29 at the half.
 
UNA started the second half on a 15-5 run. A transition basket by Mervin James tied the score at 44-44 at the 15:44 mark. Neither team led by more than two points until the Lions scored on consecutive possessions to push the lead to 56-52 with 11:20 to play.
 
Lipscomb responded with a 12-4 run to take of four-point lead of its own before the Lions again battled back to tie the game at 64-64. UNA, however, could never regain the lead.
 
Agnew led all scorers with 20 points. James added 15 points while Littles turned in another double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Ahsan Asadullah led Lipscomb (9-14 overall, 4-6 ASUN) with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
 
UNA will host Liberty on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
