UNA BEACH VOLLEYBALL DROPS PAIR AT MOREHEAD STATE

MOREHEAD, Ky., – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team came up short twice Wednesday at Morehead State. The 3-2 and 4-1 losses leave the Lions with a 5-7 record on the season.

In the opener, UNA let an early 2-0 lead slip away after a pair of three-set victories. Libby Jump and Joice Maldonado struck first with a 14-21, 21-19, 18-16 win at the No. 4 spot. At No. 5, Samantha Shafer and Genesis Benitez extended the North Alabama lead with an 11-21, 21-10, 15-8 victory.

The Eagles, however, rallied with straight-set wins at the top three positions to come away with 3-2 overall victory.

In the second contest, MSU recorded three quick wins to clinch the match early. After victories by the Eagles at positions 3-5 secured the win, North Alabama picked up a point at the top spot. Playing together at No. 1 for the first time this season, Ava Carnley and Mackenzie Martin recorded a 21-19, 21-19 win.

MSU wrapped up the scoring with a three-set victory at No. 2.

The UNA beach volleyball team will return to action March 21-22 at the UNC-Wilmington Dig and Dive Beach Bash. The Lions will play four matches over the two-day event.
