LIBERTY WOMEN STAY PERFECT, HAND LIONS FIRST ASUN LOSS

LYNCHBURG, Va., - Three players reached double figures in scoring and Liberty remained perfect in league play with an 86-63 home win over North Alabama Saturday in ASUN Conference women's basketball action. With the loss, UNA falls to 3-9 overall and 2-1 in conference games.

The Flames never trailed after opening the game on a 12-2 run. Liberty took control in the post while the Lions hit only one shot from the floor in the first 6:45 of playing time. UNA trailed by as many as 11 before Jaida Bond connected from three-point range just before the first-quarter buzzer to make the score 22-14.

After the Flames extended their lead to 17 late in the second quarter, Bond again connected from long range at the end of the period. Her shot from the right corner made the score 39-25 at the half.

North Alabama's season-long woes in the third quarter continued on Saturday. Liberty outscored the Lions 33-19 in the period and led by as many as 29 points. Another 12-2 spurt by the Flames made the score 51-27 before a basket by Alexis Callins at the 7:13 mark represented the first field goal of the half for UNA.

Liberty led by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter before the Lions closed the game strong. After two free throws gave the home team an 82-50 lead with 5:37 remaining, Bond scored seven points during a 13-4 UNA run.

For the game, UNA was 25-of-28 from the free throw line. Liberty, however, held a 46-34 rebounding advantage and had 28 second-chance points.

Bond, a sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn., had a game-high 22 points and completed a double-double performance with 10 rebounds on the day. Jaila Roberts added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Lions.

Ashtyn Baker led Liberty (9-3 overall, 5-0 ASUN) with 18 points.

The same two teams will play again Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. (CST) at Liberty Arena.
