EKU RALLES FOR 3-2 WIN OVER UNA VOLLEYALL TEAM

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team let overall leads of 1-0 and 2-1 slip away as Eastern Kentucky rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Lions Friday evening at Flowers Hall. With the 25-17, 26-28, 25-20, 16-25, 10-15 loss, UNA falls to 8-17 overall and 2-10 in ASUN Conference play.

The loss also spoiled an otherwise solid offensive performance by the Lions that featured 61 kills, including 21 from freshman Katy Floyd. The total tied a career high for the outside hitter from Louisville, Ky. She also added 14 digs, three blocks and a service ace on the night after taking a season-high 60 swings.

UNA hit .429 in the opening set, but could never match the efficiency in the remaining frames. The Lions fought off three set points in the second game before back-to-back kills by EKU gave the visitors a 28-26 win to even the match.

North Alabama again grabbed the overall lead in the third set. Kamryn Parsonage had five kills in the 25-20 victory.

The Colonels, however, rallied to win the final two frames. After a dominant win in the fourth set to tie the score, EKU carried the momentum over to the fifth game to get the victory.

Parsonage and AK Griggs added 12 kills each for the Lions. Mattrice Harris also hit .400 on the night to go along with her nine kills. Breylee Linder recorded 10 digs and 54 assists while Katie Gerig also had 18 digs.

Sarah Mitchell led EKU (7-19 overall, 4-8 ASUN) with 13 kills.

UNA will have little time to recover from the five-setter. The Lions host Bellarmine at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have battled to five-set decision in each of the last four meetings.
