LION VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS BELLARMINE

FLORENCE – Katy Floyd posted match-high totals of 14 kills and five service aces to lead the University of North Alabama volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Bellarmine Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 sweep gives UNA a 9-17 record on the season with a 3-10 mark in ASUN Conference play.

After grabbing an early lead and holding off the Knights in the opening set, it was the Lions who rallied to win each of the next two frames. UNA overcame an eight-point deficit in the second set and an early 7-1 hole in the third.

In the second set, Bellarmine led 15-7 after a UNA service error. The Lions responded with a 9-3 run to close the gap to 18-16. After the visitors stretched the lead back to 22-18, four straight UNA points tied the score. The Knights regained a one-point advantage before a kill by AK Griggs and a Bellarmine attack error gave the Lions their first lead of the set at 24-23. Mattrice Harris then ended the game with a kill to give UNA a 2-0 overall lead.

Bellarmine opened the third set with another scoring run. After trailing by as many as six, the Lions rallied to tie the set at 15-15. The game was tied again at 16-16 before UNA took control with five straight points. An ace by Floyd was followed by a kill from Kamryn Parsonage and back-to-back kills by Harris to put the home team ahead 21-16.

The Knights got within two points at 23-21 before another kill by Parsonage and a Bellarmine attack error ended the match.

Griggs, Parsonage and Harris finished with seven kills each. Floyd, who hit .323 for the match, also had 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Breylee Linder also added 38 assists and 13 digs on the day.
