UNA MEN DROP 93-63 CONTEST AT NO. 4 GONZAGA

SPOKANE, Wash., – Fourth-ranked Gonzaga had five players reached double figures in scoring in a 93-63 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team on Tuesday. The loss leaves UNA with a 7-6 record prior to the beginning of ASUN Conference play next week.
 
On Tuesday, Gonzaga shot 49.3 percent from the floor and scored 52 points in the paint. The Zags (11-2) outscored UNA in each half but took control midway through the first period.
 
A three-point basket by Dallas Howell tied the score at 11-11 at the 14:37 mark and the Lions later trailed 18-15 before making only one shot from the floor for 9:33 of playing time. Gonzaga used a 23-7 run to grab a 20-point with 3:26 remaining.
 
The home team led by 24 before a basket by Jamari Blackmon at the buzzer made the score 47-25 at the break.
 
A three-pointer by Payton Youngblood on the opening possession of the second half briefly cut the deficit to 19 points before the Zags used a 19-7 run to push the lead to 66-31 with 13:20 to play. The lead remained between 36 and 27 points down the stretch.
 
C.J. Brim led UNA with 15 points. The senior from Tupelo, Miss., was 6-of-13 from the floor and scored 11 points in the second half. Youngblood added nine points while Pape Momar Cisse pulled down a team-high eight rebounds on the day.
 
UNA will open ASUN play at Lipscomb on Jan. 4. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Allen Arena on the LU campus in Nashville.
