BEACH VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS CHATTANOOGA

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team picked up a pair of home victors over Chattanooga on Friday by identical 4-1 scores. The sweep gives UNA a 7-6 record on the season as the Lions wrapped up the home portion of their 2021 season.

Chattanooga played both matches with only three pairs, awarding UNA two points via forfeit each meeting. After the Mocs forfeited points at No. 2 and No. 4 in the opener, North Alabama quickly clinched the match with a victory at the No. 3 spot. Jelena Girod and Lauren Quigley posted the 21-13, 21-18 win to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

Samantha Shafer and Mackenzie Blackwood extended the UNA lead by rallying for a 20-22, 21-17, 15-10 victory at No. 5. Chattanooga secured its point with a victory at the top spot.

In the second match, the Mocs forfeited points at No.3 and No. 5.UNA clinched the match when Paula Klemperer and Natalie Kordt recorded a 21-18, 21-16 victory at the No. 2 position.

After Chattanooga made the score 3-1 with a win at No. 1, the Lions wrapped up the scoring with another comeback victory. Catie Ladner and Mackenzie Martin dropped the first set 21-17 at the No. 4 position. The duo then rallied to post 21-13 and 15-10 wins to give UNA the 5-1 overall victory.

UNA will travel to Conway, Ark., April 2-3 to play in the Central Arkansas Beach Bear Classic.
