LIONS DROP HOME FINALE TO BELLARMINE

FLORENCE – For the second straight day, the University of North Alabama volleyball team rallied to force a fifth set against Bellarmine, only to fall in the deciding game. On Sunday, the Lions came up on the short end of the 25-17, 21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 7-15 decision to fall to 1-10 overall and 1-9 in ASUN Conference play.

Three players recorded double-digit kill totals, but UNA struggled to find consistency, hitting just .147 as a team. The Lions won the opening set before dropping two straight. A 25-22 victory then forced a fifth set for the second consecutive day.

In the deciding game, Bellarmine hit .391, getting 11 kills on 23 swings. UNA managed only five kills and had three attack errors.

Libby Goodman had 14 kills to lead North Alabama. The freshman from Castle Pines, Colo., hit .217 and added two digs and four blocks on the day.

Kamryn Parsonage and Maggie Sullivan added 12 kills each. Parsonage added 16 digs and three blocks while Sullivan hit .435 with three blocks of her own. Breylee Linder had 24 assists while Kennedey Johnson added 17 assists for the Lions.

Defensively, a career-high 26 digs by Katie Gerig paved the way. Johnson also had 11 digs for a double-double while Anna Katherine Griggs was a part of seven blocks.

UNA will play at Middle Tennessee on Thursday. Match time is set for 6 p.m. on the MTSU campus in Murfreesboro.
