STETSON RALLIES FOR FIVE-SET VICTORY OVER UNA VOLLEYBALL

JACKSONVILLE –  A career-high 21 kills by Katy Floyd was not enough to get the University of North Alabama volleyball team's first ASUN Conference win of the season on Saturday. Stetson rallied from an opening-set loss to post a 3-2 win over the Lions on the second day of the ASUN Crossover on the campus of Jacksonville State. With the 25-20, 17-25, 19-25, 27-25, 11-15 loss, UNA falls to 6-9 on the season, including an 0-2 mark in ASUN matches.

On Saturday, North Alabama had no answer for Stetson's Elena Djokovic. The junior from Belgrade, Serbia recorded 32 kills on the day.

UNA hit .484 in the opening set as Floyd and Kamryn Parsonage got five kills each. Stetson responded with its best two showing in the second and third games. The Hatters (6-8 overall, 1-1 ASUN) hit .440 in the second set and .609 in the third to grab an overall lead in the match.

In the fourth set, the Lions rallied to extend the match. Trailing 22-18, UNA used a 5-1 run to tie score. The Hatters reached match point with a 24-23 lead before a kill by Maggie Sullivan tied the game again.

After Stetson grabbed another match point with a 25-24 lead, UNA scored three straight points. A kill by Sullivan tied the game and a service ace by Eli Ford gave the Lions their first set point. Sullivan then sent the match to a fifth set with a kill that gave the Lions the 27-25 victory.

In the final frame, the two teams traded leads until Stetson pulled away late. Two blocks and a kill broke a 7-7 tie and gave the Hatters a 10-7 lead. UNA would get no closer than three the rest of the way.

Floyd, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., had the best match of her career. She hit .208 for the match and added six digs. Parsonage also had a career performance, notching 16 kills, three digs, a block and a service ace. Sullivan rounded out the top hitters for the Lions by hitting .393 with 14 kills. Breylee Linder turned in 53 assists for North Alabama.

Defensively, Katie Gerig had 14 digs while Linder added 12 digs on the day.

UNA will wrap up play at the ASUN Crossover on Sunday against North Florida. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at JSU's Pete Matthews Coliseum.

Trailing 2-1 in the match, UNA forced a deciding game by rallying to win the fourth set
