FLORENCE, Ala. -- University of North Alabama senior punter Joe Gurley of Killen, Ala., has been named the Big South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Lions' season-opening game against Southeastern Louisiana on September 4.


Gurley averaged 44.5 yards on his four punts in the game and had one boot downed on Southeastern Louisiana's one-yard line. 


SELU was only able to return one punt all night and it was for no yards.


Gurley was a first-team All-Big South Conference punter in 2020 and was also named pre-season All-Big South for 2021.


It is Gurley's fourth career Big South Conference Player of the Week award.
