FLORENCE - The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team opened the season on Friday with a pair of victories at the 2022 Shoals Beach Bash. The Lions defeated Huntingdon twice by identical 5-0 scores at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts to start the season with a 2-0 record.

In both matches, UNA jumped out to early leads in the bottom of the lineup. The Lions won all 10 official matches in straight sets, holding the Hawks to single digits nine times.

In the opener, two quick wins at the No. 5 and No. 4 spots gave UNA an early 2-0 lead. Lauren Quigley and Martha McLaurin then clinched the match with a 21-17, 21-4 win at the No. 3 position. The Lions finished the match with victories at the top two spots.

The second match featured a different lineup with a similar script. Another fast start at the bottom of the lineup gave North Alabama a 2-0 lead. Jelena Girod and Natalie Kordt then clinched the match with a 21-15, 21-8 victory at the No. 1 position.

Two more wins at No. 2 and No. 3 wrapped up the day for the Lions.
