FLORENCE, Ala. --
Jacob James pitched six shutout innings to open his first start of the season and his North Alabama teammates backed him with 10 runs on 12 hits as the Lions won the final game of an ASUN Conference series against Eastern Kentucky 10-1 at Mike Lane Field.
It was the first time this season that the Lions have scored 10 runs in a game.
With the win, UNA is now 6-12 overall and 1-2 in the ASUN. EKU falls to 13-8 overall and 2-1 in the ASUN.
With the game scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, UNA scored four runs with two outs and never trailed.
Dominick McIntyre doubled and scored on an RBI-single from
Austin Thrasher.
Reid Homan singled in Thrasher,
Devne Daniel doubled in Homan and Daniel scored on a
Jonathan Lane RBI-single. The Lions also left the bases loaded.
EKU got its only run in the top of the seventh. Will King drew a leadoff walk from James to start the inning.
Austin Emener then came on in relief and eventually allowed King to score on a walk and a pair of singles. Emener ended the threat when he struckout Max Williams with the bases loaded.
The Lions answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Homan was hit by pitch and later scored on a
Drew Hudson RBI-single.
UNA then added five more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Peyton Thom and
Luke Harper walked and Thrasher was hit to load the bases. Thomas scored on a wild pitch and Homan then doubled in Harper. After Daniel walked, Hudson drove in a run with an RBI-single,
Levi Jensen walked to force in another run and Daniel scored on a passed ball.
James (2-0) got win for the Lions, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings with two walks and nine strikeouts. Emener earned his third save, pitching the final three innings. He allowed no runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Hudson led the Lions' 12-hit attack with three, while Thrasher, Homan and Lane added two each.
Daniel has now reached base in all 18 of UNA's games this season.
UNA play at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday and travels to Jacksonville State next weekend for another ASUN Conference series.
