FLORENCE, Ala. -- North Alabama scored two runs in the ninth inning to avoid being shutout for the first time this season but came out on the short end of a 12-2 score against Jacksonville State in the second game of an ASUN Conference baseball series.
JSU scored two runs in the second inning and added six in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the eighth for a 12-0 lead.
UNA then scored its two runs in the bottom of the ninth as
Levi Jensen was hit-by-pitch and
Garrett Smith and
Luke Harper both walked. Jensen then scored on a ground out by
Austin Thrasher and
Jonathan Lane drove in Smith with an RBI-ground out,
With the loss, UNA is now 9-31 overall and 2-18 in ASUN Conference play. Jacksonville State improved to 20-21 overall and 13-7 in the ASUN.
UNA starter
Will Haberstock (2-7) took the loss, allowing nine runs on 12 hits over five complete innings.
Will Morris pitched the final four innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Harper singled for UNA in the third inning to extend his current hitting streak to 15 games.
The Lions and Gamecocks play the final game of the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
