NICHOLS THROWS THREE-HIT SHUTOUT AGAINST MEMPHIS

FLORENCE, Ala. – Austin Nichols threw a three-hit, complete-game shutout against Memphis, leading North Alabama to a 10-0 win over the Tigers at Mike Lane Field.

Nichols, now 1-5, threw the first complete game shutout for the Lions in the school's Division I era. He pitched seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

UNA scored five runs in the first inning, two in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

The game ended due to the 10-run rule when Austin Thrasher singled in Luke Harper in the bottom of the seventh, pushing UNA's lead to 10-0.

In the first inning, UNA's first seven batters reached base. Harper singled, Thrasher doubled and Reid Homan walked to load the bases. Devne Daniel, Jonathan Lane and Drew Hudson all walked in succession to drive in runs. A Zak Majer single drove in two more runs to make it 5-0.

In UNA's half of the third inning, Lane and Hudson singled to begin the inning. Dominick McIntyre singled in Lane and Quinn Petty Sacrificed in Hudson to make it 7-0.

Majer led off the fifth with a single and later scored on a Petty sacrifice fly.

In the seventh, Majer doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by McIntyre. Harper then walked, went to second on a passed ball and scored on Thrasher's walk-off single.
