FLORENCE, Ala. -- North Alabama left 13 runners on base and went hitless with runners in scoring position as the Lions dropped an 8-2 decision to Alabama A&M at Mike Lane Field.
UNA trailed just 3-2 after six innings but the Bulldogs added a single run in the seventh, two in the eighth and two in the ninth to extend their lead.
With the loss, UNA is now 9-36 overall, while Alabama A&M improved to 9-30.
After leaving runners on base in scoring position in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, the Lions finally got on the board in the sixth. UNA scored two runs without a hit as
Levi Jensen walked,
Cal Cook reached on a fielder's choice and
Garrett Smith walked to load the bases.
Dominick McIntyre then struckout but reached base on a passed ball and Jensen scored.
Luke Harper then walked to drive in Cook. The Lions left the bases loaded, however, for the second time in three innings.
The Lions managed just four hits but received eight walks, two hit batters and two runners that reached on errors.
UNA starter
Jacob Bradshaw (1-7) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings.
North Alabama plays at Belmont on Wednesday.
