LIONS ROUT KNIGHTS 15-5 IN ASUN PLAY

FLORENCE, Ala. – On a night that included a post-game graduation ceremony for four members of the team, North Alabama scored a season-high 15 runs and rolled to a 15-5 ASUN Conference baseball win over Bellarmine at Mike Lane Field.
 
The Lions scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed in the contest, adding two runs in the second inning, three in the sixth and seven in the eighth.
 
With the win, UNA is now 10-37 overall and 3-22 in the ASUN. Bellarmine drops to 11-37 overall and 8-17 in the conference.
 
In the first inning Austin Thrasher and Jonathan Lane both walked. On a double steal, Bellarmine couldn't make a play and Thrasher scored. Lane then scored when Reid Homan ripped a two-run home run to left field.
 
Bellarmine got a run in the top of the second before UNA got two back in the bottom of the frame. Levi Jensen and Luke Harper both singled, Thrasher singled in Jensen and Harper scored on an errant throw to make it 5-1.
 
Bellarmine closed the gap to 5-3 in the sixth inning before UNA again answered with three runs of its own. Drew Hudson singled and scored on a double by Jensen. Jensen then scored on a Harper single to make it 8-3.
 
After the Knights got a run in the top of the eighth, UNA got seven in the bottom of the inning. Jensen had an RBI-single, Harper doubled in a run and Devne Daniel hit a three-run homer to highlight the attack.
 
UNA starter Austin Nichols (2-8) got the win. He allowed four runs on nine hits over eight complete innings. He didn't walk anyone and struckout five. Caden Barnett allowed a run on two hits in the ninth inning.
 
Harper was 4-for-6 for UNA with three runs scored and one run batted in. Jensen was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
 
The Lions and Knights play game two of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Following the game, UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts held a special ceremony for four graduating members of the 2022 Lion baseball team - Luke Harper, Drew Hudson, Jonathan Lundberg and Austin Thrasher.
