NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- North Alabama fell behind 10-0 early and couldn't recover as the Lions dropped a 16-9 decision at Lipscomb in the first game of a three-game ASUN Conference baseball series.
After spotting Lipscomb three runs in the first inning and seven in the second, UNA rallied for two runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to cut the lead to five. Lipscomb pushed its lead back to eight before UNA got two runs in the top of the eighth to make it 15-9. Lipscomb then added one in the bottom of the eighth to make the final count 16-9.
In the third inning,
Luke Harper and
Austin Thrasher singled. A
Devne Daniel singled drove in Harper and a
Drew Hudson singled scored Thrasher.
On the fourth,
Cal Cook singled and
Peyton Thomas followed with a two-run home run.
Levi Jensen then singled and later scored on a Reid-Homan RBI-single.
In the fifth, Thomas was hit-by-pitch, Jensen singled and they both scored on an
Austin Thrasher single to make it 13-7 at that point.
In the eighth, Thrasher walked and scored on a Daniel RBI-double.
Reid Homan reached on an error and scored on a Reid SIngewald single for the Lions' final run.
UNA starter
Austin Nichols (2-9) took the loss for the Lions. He allowed 10 runs on eight hits over two and a third innings.
Thrasher was 4-for-4 for the Lions, while Daniel had three hits to lead UNA's 17 hit attack.
The Lions and Bisons play game two of the series on Friday.
