CONWAY, Ark. -- North Alabama fell behind early and couldn't make up the difference as the Lions dropped a 16-6 decision to Central Arkansas in the final game of an ASUN Conference baseball series.
UNA is now 9-35 overall and 2-22 in ASUN play. Central Arkansas improved to 22-23 overall and 16-8 in conference play.
The Bears got a run in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third and one in the fifth for an 8-0 lead.
The Lions scored two runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning.
Dominick McIntyre walked and
Jonathan Lane singled before
Reid Homan delivered an RBI-single.
Drew Hudson then drove in the second run with a single.
UCA answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh to make it 12-2.
North Alabama scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to cut into the lead. Lane walked, Homan singled and Hudson walked to load the bases.
Levi Jensen then hit a grand slam, the first grand slam by a UNA hitter since 2018.
Central Arkansas scored four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final 16-6.
UNA's
Luke Harper went 0-for-3 in the game, ending his 19-game hitting streak. He did draw two walks to extend his streak of having reach base successfully to 22 straight games.
Jacob James (2-5) took the loss for UNA. He allowed seven runs on seven hits over three and a third innings. He walked three and struckout two. Â
North Alabama hosts Alabama on Tuesday at Mike Lane Field at 5 p.m.
