LIONS DOWN NEW ORLEANS 3-1 TO STAY UNDEFEATED

FLORENCE – After dropping the opening set against New Orleans, the University of North Alabama volleyball team rallied for three straight wins to post a 22-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23 victory Saturday evening at Flowers Hall. With the 3-1 win, the Lions finished the UNA Volleyball Classic as the only undefeated team, moving to 5-0 on the season.
 
Katy Floyd hit .302 and led all players with 16 kills on the day. She added a service ace and a block assists to finish with 17.5 points. Taylor Floyd added a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs for the Lions.
 
The loss in the opening set represented the first time UNA had trailed in a match all season. The Lions responded by hitting .345 in the second set and .419 in the third to take a 2-1 overall lead.
 
In the fourth set, New Orleans held a 16-13 advantage before the home team rallied. North Alabama managed to tie the score at 17-17 on a kill by Anna Katherine Griggs and later took a 19-18 lead on a kill by Katy Floyd.
 
UNA extended its lead to 21-18 and the Privateers would get no closer than two the rest of the way.
 
Maggie Sullivan added nine kills and two blocks on the day while Mattrice Harris had six kills and seven blocks. Kennedey Johnson finished with 40 assists.
 
Defensively, Ella Ratzloff led the Lions with 31 digs, surpassing the 30-dig total for the second time of the weekend. Johnson also had a double-double performance with 13 digs.
 
UNA will host Alabama State on Wednesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
