KILLEN, Ala. (October 16, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team wrapped up the first and second rounds of the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Ala. on Monday with five individuals in the top 10 spots. The UNA "A" team sits in second, while the UNA "B" team is in third entering the final day.

With a 559 two-round total, The North Alabama "A" team sits just one stroke back of Auburn for first place in the MartinFed Invitational. After rounds of 279 and 280, the 559 total leaves UNA a 277-third round away from setting a new Division I record for best three round team total. The "A" team was 21-under par on par five holes across the two rounds — the best mark among any team in the tournament. 

Senior Henry Frizzell led the second-place squad with a seven-under par 67-70=137 line. Andrew Ferworn and Eric Luo sit just behind Frizzell after the first two rounds. Ferworn tallied a 138 and is in sixth place, while Luo carded a 139 and has sole possession of seventh place. Sebastian Bengtsson is tied for 22nd at 145, while Chase Kaiser is tied for 38th with a 149.

The North Alabama "B" team sits just four strokes back of the "A" team after turning in a 567 total. The team put up rounds of 283 and 284. Both marks were the third best in their respective rounds. The pair of North Alabama teams sit ahead of eight other schools. 

Corey Maher leads all Lion individuals, being tied for third after the first two rounds. The sophomore notched 10 birdies on his way to rounds of 67 and 69 for an eight-under par 136 total. John Logan sits not far behind Maher, finding his way out of the first two rounds with a 140 — placing him in eighth. Dawson Garrett is tied for 17th with a 143, while Niko Nebout is tied for 34th with a 148. Cory Abbott rounds out Lion golfers with a 162, tied for 66th.

The "A" team turned in three birdies across the first two rounds — tied for the most among any team with Samford. Frizzell, Luo and Bengtsson earned one apiece. 

Play concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with the third and final round of the tournament.
