Women’s Basketball to host Tennessee Tech on Thursday

Lions to face Golden Eagles for first official meeting in nearly 40 years

FLORENCE, Ala. (December 20, 2023) – After spending the last three games on the road, North Alabama Women's Basketball returns home to host Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee Tech on Thursday night at CB&S Bank Arena inside Flowers Hall at 6 p.m.

Thursday will mark the final home game in the non-conference portion of the schedule for UNA. The Lions return to Florence following their first road win of the season this Tuesday against Samford, 69-64. UNA used a 28-point third quarter to overtake the Bulldogs en route to their first away victory. The win also marked UNA's first over Samford in all-time series history.

Parking is available to the general public along the streets of Circular Road and Stewart Avenue, as well as the parking lot in front of Rice and Rivers Hall and the parking garage. Lots A, B and C at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex and below the arena are reserved parking spaces. There is also paid parking below the Science Building off Circular Road.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
UNA comes into the matchup with a 4-7 record and will look to pick up their first win in the series against Tennessee Tech. The Lions continue to be a leader in the Atlantic Sun Conference in scoring, averaging 72.5 points per game to rank second in the ASUN. UNA also ranks atop the league leaderboards in three-point percentage (33.9 percent/first), free throw percentage (79.1 percent/first), team assists (15.36 per game/second), team field goal percentage (42.7 percent/third) and three-pointers made per game average (8.7 PG/third). North Alabama also ranks second in opponent three-point field goal percentage, allowing just 28.3 percent.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Tennessee Tech is located in Cookeville, Tenn. and competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Ohio Valley Conference, having joined in 1949. Tennessee Tech began playing women's basketball in 1970 and has an all-time record of 1,016-600. In their last outing on Dec. 18, the Golden Eagles defeated Northern Kentucky 77-59 to earn their third home win of the year. Tennessee Tech's leading scorer is graduate guard Maaliya Owens (15.4 PPG), and they are coached by Kim Rosamond in her eighth year. The Golden Eagles are 4-6 on the season, including an 0-3 away record and a 1-1 record in neutral site games.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama and Tennessee Tech have only met once officially, coming almost 40 years ago during the 1984-1985 season when the Lions were a member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC). Tennessee Tech won this meeting in Cookeville, 77-59. UNA also traveled to Tennessee Tech in 2016 for an exhibition before jumping to NCAA Division I two seasons later, but the game did not count towards UNA's record.

WOHLGEMUTH ON WATCH: Senior guard Wohlgemuth was on triple-double watch the last time out against Samford, scoring 14 points on 4-8 shooting and tallying nine rebounds and six assists to add to her afternoon in Birmingham. She also showed poise in the fourth quarter, scoring the final six points for the Lions to help clinch the win.

A QUALITY OPPONENT:
The Golden Eagles are UNA's second opponent that made an appearance in last season's 2023 NCAA Tournament — Chattanooga being the first. Last season, Tennessee Tech went 23-10, won the OVC Tournament over Little Rock and defeated Monmouth in the NCAA Tournament - First Four before falling to No. 1 seed Indiana.
