NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama picked up a thrilling road win at Kennesaw State on Wednesday, winning 90-84 in Georgia. This ended an 11-game home winning streak for the Owls and snapped a five-game road skid for the Lions. KJ Johnson led UNA with 27 points in the win.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: UNA has an 8-12 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lions have enjoyed a positive scoring margin all season, entering Saturday with 77.0 PPG scored to 76.3 PPG allowed. Sophomore guard Jacari Lane leads the team with 14.5 PPG. He and Johnson are both averaging over 16.0 PPG in conference play.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Comparable to UNA, Queens enters with an 8-13 overall record and a 2-4 record in league play. Queens rides a wave of momentum into Florence following a convincing 96-79 win over Central Arkansas on Wednesday in Charlotte. Hometown hero AJ McKee scored a season-high 28 points to lead the Royals. Junior guard Deyton Albury leads the charge with 17.3 PPG. The Royals score a lot of points at 79.4 PPG but also give up a lot with a league-high 82.5 PPG allowed.

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday marks just the second all-time meeting. The first one came last season, as Queens defeated UNA by a 107-78 final. This loss proved to be a turning point for the Lions, as UNA won nine of the next 10 games to turn a 1-5 start in league play into a 10-8 finish and the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.

CROWN BROWN: Last year against Queens, fourth-year guard Detalian Brown had his breakout game with a season-high 16 points. The junior from Chicago has since set a new career-high of 19 points in back-to-back games this season against Tennessee Tech and Kansas State.

CAREER GUYS: Brown and fourth-year teammate Will Soucie are two of just three players to play in over 100 Division I games in a Lion uniform. The other is Jamari Blackmon, who played in 113 games from 2018-22.

FIRST DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Junior Dallas Howell notched his first career double-double on Wednesday at Kennesaw State, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He is the fourth player this season to complete a double-double, joining Lane, Damian Forrest and Tim Smith Jr. The latter two players have each done it twice this season.

OFFENSE PREVAILED: For the first time this season, UNA allowed over 80 points and still won the game with the 90-84 win over Kennesaw State. Previously, UNA had an 0-10 record when the opponent scored 80 or more points.

FOUR OVER A THOUSAND: The Lions have four players on the active roster who have scored 1,000 career points — Johnson, Smith Jr., Forrest and junior transfer Marco Foster. Johnson accomplished the feat last season, while Smith Jr. did so against Jacksonville State this season. Foster and Forrest hit the marks in each of the last two games against Rust College and Morehead State, respectively.

ELITE COMPANY: UNA is one of nine known schools in Division I basketball with at least four 1,000 point scorers when factoring in players who scored some of their totals at the JUCO level. The list is led by St. John's (NY) with six, followed by TCU and Missouri with five. North Alabama is joined by Tennessee, Villanova, St. Bonaventure, Memphis and New Mexico with four.

ON THE HORIZON: UNA remains home next week to host Stetson and FGCU, beginning with the Hatters on Feb. 1.
