ATLANTA (February 19, 2024) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday, naming University of North Alabama junior infielder
Hailey Jones as the ASUN Player of the Week for Feb. 19.
Jones — a preseason All-ASUN selection and a third team postseason selection last season — went 6-for-17 at the plate this past week for a .353 average. She had five hits over the first two games, leading UNA to a pair of wins over Murray State and WKU at the Chattanooga Challenge in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Of her six hits, Jones had a triple and two doubles. She drove home a run against both WKU and Jacksonville State while also scoring a run in the tournament.
In the field, Jones had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage at second base with 12 putouts and nine assists over the five games.
The Lions won three games at the Chattanooga Challenge, improving to a 7-3 overall record. For the season, Jones is batting .281 with four multi-base hits, three runs and four RBI.
Jones becomes just the second UNA player to earn ASUN Player of the Week and the first since 2021. The Lions have also celebrated five ASUN Pitcher of the Week awards since moving to the league in 2019 — all five of which came from Megan Garst.
The Lions return to action this Wednesday to face Alabama. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. Later this week, the Lions will play four games at the Green & Gold Classic hosted by UAB in Birmingham.
