ATLANTA (February 5, 2024) – University of North Alabama freshman guard Veronaye Charlton was named Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Monday.
In two wins against North Florida and Jacksonville last week, Charlton started both games for an average of 30.6 minutes per contest and averaged 17 points per game on 48 percent shooting while going 4-7 from behind the arc. Charlton also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, tallying three steals and a block over the week.
The freshman finished with 18 points on 7-11 shooting and a perfect 3-3 from three against North Florida, also registering six rebounds, six assists and two steals. The Nassau, Bahamas native followed with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists in the 77-67 win over Jacksonville.
Charlton received the honor the previous week on Jan. 29 after the Lions went 2-0 against Kennesaw State and Queens. This marks the sixth award won by UNA Women's Basketball this season and third ASUN FOTW honor for Charlton. She now ties Sakyia White for the second-most ASUN freshman weekly honors in a season at UNA behind only Skyler Gill, who won it five times in 2021-22.
UNA Women's Basketball will begin a Florida road trip this week, facing off against Stetson and FGCU for the next two games. The Lions' first matchup against Stetson will be on Thursday, Feb. 8 in DeLand, Fla. with the game tipping off at 10 a.m. CST for fans following in the Shoals and 11 a.m. EST.
