THE LINEUP: UNA will play with the same lineup as last month's tournament in Missouri. Sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen, who led the Lions with a 13th place finish in the last tournament with a three-over scorecard, will be at the top of the lineup this week. True freshmen Lisa Palmgren and Kiersten Riggins join juniors Ava Schwartz and Kerigan Klauber to round out the quintet.
THE FIELD: The Lions are one of 17 teams in the field and one of four from the state of Alabama alongside UAB, Troy and Samford. Four teams that played in last month's Johnie Imes Invitational at Missouri will join UNA for this one, as well — UAB, Morehead State, Murray State and Missouri State. Current conference opponents West Georgia and Austin Peay and future conference opponent Little Rock will be in the mix, as well as Utah Tech, Southern Illinois, Mississippi College, ULM, Illinois State and Memphis.
ORDER OF EVENTS: The Lions began their practice round on Sunday at 11:20 a.m. The action begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. with two rounds of continuous play. The final 18 holes will take place on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Starting holes will be revealed just prior to Monday's tee time.
THE COURSE: A semi-private course, Sage Meadows is nestled in Jonesboro, Ark. It plays at roughly 6,900 yards and is consistently ranked among the top semi-private golf courses in the state. The course offers zoysia grass fairways and lush TifEagle bermuda greens. Nine of the 18 holes contain water.
LAST TIME OUT: The Lions finished in a tie for 10th at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Missouri back in September, as this week's event at Sage Meadows will be the third of four fall tournaments. The Missouri-hosted tournament was called after two rounds due to inclement weather. The Lions were on the final nine holes when the event was called. UNA officially finished 35-over-par 611 with rounds of 302 and 309.
RED WOLVES REWIND: UNA first played in this tournament on Oct. 10-11, 2022 and finished 30-over-par with an 894 final score. The Lions have hovered just over 900 strokes as a team the last two seasons at Sage Meadows. Last season, UNA finished with a 906 but cracked the top 10 of the field for the first time with a 10th place finish. Chanpen was the top UNA golfer last season with a 76-73-73=222 to finish five-over in a tie for 16th.
