Women’s Tennis shines at Lipscomb Fall Invite

Lions conclude Nashville trip with 20 total wins

NASHVILLE (October 5, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team concluded the Lipscomb Fall Invitational on Sunday with a successful weekend, totaling 20 wins in Nashville, Tenn.

The three-day event saw the Lions take on Murray State, Belmont and Atlantic Sun Conference foe Lipscomb, with UNA producing a strong weekend showing. North Alabama claimed seven wins on Friday and Sunday while taking home six on Saturday.


All seven Lions left Nashville with at least two wins.


Freshman Farah Asaad led the team with five total wins with senior Eeva Ristola, junior Louise Booker and freshman Sammie Schouten each taking home four. Juniors Mathilde Delaney and Emma Ansorge finished with three wins, and senior Senem Ocal rounded out with two singles victories.

The invitational opened with Ristola and Booker claiming a 6-3 doubles win against Murray State's Barbora Hermanova and Varvara Alexeyeva. In singles against Belmont, the Lions won six of the seven matches played.


Ansorge defeated Savannah Webster, 6-3, 7-5, and Ristola earned a victory over Jessica Popiol, 6-2, 6-3. Delaney defeated Cielo Tapia-Cruz, 6-0, 6-2, followed by Schouten's 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Libbie Hamilton. Booker was victorious over Annika Warkentin, 6-0, 6-0, with the final win coming from Asaad over Emma Grant, 5-7, 6-2, 13-11.


Day two saw UNA sweep all three doubles matches against the Bruins. Ristola and Booker earned their second doubles win in a 6-3 decision over Webster and Popiol. Delaney and Schouten teamed up for a 6-4 victory over Tapia-Cruz and Ketevan Jeladze, and Ansorge and Asaad defeated Hamilton and Grant, 6-2.


Singles action against Lipscomb resulted in victories for Schouten, Ocal and Asaad. Schouten was victorious over Martina Bovio, 6-3, 6-2, with Ocal coming back to win against Alina Cherniaieva, 3-6, 6-1, 10-3. Asaad tallied her second singles win in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Leena Hamdan.


The final day began with a 7-5 doubles victory for Ansorge and Asaad over Lipscomb's Sofiia Zhylchuk and Kameliia Tytarenko.


UNA had a strong finish with six singles wins over Murray State. Ristola opened the bout with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Alexeyeva. Delaney rallied to beat Yu Kikawa, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, and Schouten's third singles win came against Bruna Melato, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Ocal beat Rebecca Widan, 6-4, 6-2, with Booker defeating Arden Dethridge, 6-2, 6-2. Asaad claimed UNA's final singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Molly Null.


The Lions return to action with the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Auburn, Ala. from Oct. 13-17.
