FLORENCE, Ala. (February 25, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team earned its first national ranking as a Division I program on Tuesday, as the Lions were tabbed the No. 74 ranked team by the International Tennis Association.
After an unbeaten weekend last time out, North Alabama's early season success was recognized with its first ranking in Division I program history. The lone team ranked from the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Lions have wins in four of the last five duals with wins over Belmont, Troy, Jackson State and Samford.
The win over Belmont was the first since the 1994 season, and the Samford victory marked the first since 1983.
UNA has a 4-2 record so far this season.
"It's very satisfying to be in the rankings and get national recognition," said UNA Men's Tennis Coach Aitor Reparaz. "I am very proud of this team for the dedication, resiliency and passion they show every day. We are hungry for more, so I am excited to see what other big things we can achieve. Roar Lions!"
The 2024 season saw UNA win a Division I program-record 16 duals with a semifinal appearance in the 2024 ASUN Tournament and their first-ever 2024 UTR NIT Tournament.
The Lions were also picked to finish third in the Preseason ASUN Coaches Poll – the highest in the Division I program era.
The No. 74 Lions take their talents to Hattiesburg, Miss. for their next outing, facing the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
