Baseball battled before dropping second game, 6-2

Lions struck first with two runs to hold the lead for three innings

BATON ROUGE, La. (March 8, 2025) – The University of North Alabama baseball team fell to the No.1 ranked LSU Tigers on Saturday by a 6-2 final inside of Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. North Alabama pitched freshmen duo Tripp Patterson and Luke Davenport who struck out seven Tigers on the day.

The Lions roared early in this one, bouncing back from their Friday showing. A designated hitter Nash Rippen walked before a catcher Matthew Delgado doubled down the left field line led to the opening run for UNA. After a quick review from LSU to see if the ball stayed in play, it was upheld leading to the lead. First baseman Petey Craska singled up the middle where he claimed an RBI as Delgado scored.

The Tigers answered as they did on Friday. A double to left center and then a double to center field scored the LSU base runner. A couple of fly-outs helped end the inning for Patterson.

The second inning for both teams went three up and three down. However, in the bottom of the third another Tiger doubled to right center but a fly out that led to a throwing error led the Tigers runner to tie it.

The fourth inning went just like the second, three up and three down for both teams with the score 2-2. The Tigers stepped up in the fifth as the lead off walked, second batter doubled and then a homerun cleared the bases making it a 5-2 lead.

Davenport stepped to the mound in the seventh. LSU added one run in the bottom of the eighth to finalize it at 6-2.

Patterson went six innings striking out four batters along the way. Davenport snagged three more strikeouts during the six at-bats he had. Delgado went 1-for-3 with a run, RBI, double and a walk.
