Beach Volleyball earns seven ASUN postseason honors

Lions win Pair of the Year with two first-team, one second-team and three freshman team selections

JACKSONVILLE (April 23, 2025) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced the 2025 postseason awards for beach volleyball Wednesday afternoon, with six Lions combining for seven all-conference honors.

North Alabama's top-flight duo — Katy Floyd and Selma Robinson — were named the ASUN's Pair of the Year along with earning first team honors for the second-straight season.

Graduate Kaitlyn Holbrook tallied her first conference postseason honor with a second team selection, while Paige Griner, Mabrey Whitehead and Pien Grooters rounded out the honors with all-freshman team selections.

UNA adds more accolades to their 2025 tally, with the Lions now totaling nine after the announcement of the Academic All-ASUN team. Robinson, along with senior Ryenne Gepford, were named to the team earlier today.

For Floyd and Robinson, the two secured the program's first Pair of the Year honor. The pair also earned their second career first-team honors after being named to the team as a pair in 2024.

The Lions' duo went
20-8 record during the regular season while 9-1 in ASUN play from the top flight. They also earned a win over No. 16 North Florida's top flight on March 28, defeating Presley Murray and Mackenzie Murphy in a thriller, 21-18, 23-21.

Floyd and Robinson went on six-match win streaks twice on the season from Feb. 28 – March 8 and during ASUN play from March 28 – April 5.

The two also enjoyed personal accomplishments during the 2025 season. Floyd
became the program's all-time wins leader on April 5 with her 84th career win in a 27-25, 21-15 victory over EKU's Paityn Walker Molly Shomock. Robinson also won her 50th career match at the Tiger Beach Bash on March 1, earning a 21-10, 21-8 triumph over South Florida's Ola Stadnik and Sam Crosby.

Holbrook's season resulted in a
17-8 record on the season with a 7-3 conference record playing primarily from the fifth flight. She went on winning streaks of four or more three times this season, including a season-high six from Feb. 28 – March 8 (No. 10 LSU, Louisiana Monroe, Southeastern Louisiana, South Florida, UT Martin and EKU).

With partner Hailey Benesz, the pair earned two wins against ranked opponents. The first came in a 23-21, 21-17 victory over No. 10 LSU's Gracey Campbell and Elle Evers on Feb. 28. The second came versus No. 16 North Florida, defeating the Ospreys' Sophie Notaro and Eden Anderson, 21-14, 21-19, on March 28.

The freshman trio of Whitehead, Griner and Grooters all made impacts in year one with the Lions, securing the program's first All-Freshman Team selections.

Griner led the freshmen with a 16-12 season record, also going 6-4 in conference play while playing across the second, third and fourth flights. She won nine-straight matches with partner Aurora Bibolotti from Feb. 28 – March 14. The two were victorious over pairs from Louisiana Monroe, Southeastern Louisiana, South Florida, UT Martin, New Orleans, EKU, UAB, Chattanooga and Missouri State.

Grooters had a solid 13-13 record on the season with a 4-5 record in the ASUN. Splitting time between the second and third flight, she earned ranked wins with a win against No. 6 Florida State's second flight on Feb. 21 and No. 18 Georgia State's third flight on April 12. The freshman also won six-straight matches with Gepford from March 1-14 with wins over South Florida, UT Martin, New Orleans, EKU, UAB and Chattanooga.

Whitehead concluded her first regular season with a 9-12 record and 4-4 ASUN record. She played between the third, fourth and fifth flights, with Whitehead also earning a win against No. 16 Georgia State's fifth flight on April 11. The freshman additionally had a five-match win streak from March 1-8 with wins over Southeastern Louisiana, South Florida, UT Martin, New Orleans and EKU.

Beach Volleyball is slated to begin the postseason on Thursday, April 24, with the No. 4 Lions facing No.5 Jacksonville in the ASUN Tournament at 10:30 a.m. in Huntsville, Ala.
