JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 19, 2025) – University of North Alabama baseball players
Matthew Delgado,
Petey Craska and
Luke Davenport were honored with postseason awards from the Atlantic Sun Conference on Monday.
Senior catcher
Matthew Delgado earned the highest honor of the group with a Second Team All-ASUN selection, while redshirt freshman first baseman
Petey Craska earned Third Team All-ASUN. Craska, coupled with freshman right-handed pitcher
Luke Davenport, both earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team.
All three players were selected to these teams in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Since moving to Division I for the 2019 season, UNA now has five all-conference selections and three all-freshman team selections. All three players that won awards this season are first year Lions — two by way of transfer and one incoming freshman.
Delgado becomes the first Second Team All-ASUN selection from UNA since
Luke Harper in 2022. Craska joins
Jacob James and
Gehrig Frei as the third Lion to earn a Third Team All-ASUN selection, as James and Frei did so in 2024.
Davenport and Craska join Frei as the three Lions to make the ASUN All-Freshman Team. Frei first accomplished this in 2023.
Delgado, a junior college transfer catcher from Pasadena City College, turned in a .300 batting average for the season. He played in 50 games with 48 starts, accumulating 312 putouts for a fielding percentage of .980. He allowed only one passed ball all season long.
In last week's series against Central Arkansas, Delgado threw out two runners trying to steal second. Those two gave him the most runners caught stealing in the Division I era, passing former Lion — and now coach —
Levi Jensen who set the total at 17 in 2023. Delgado's 18 caught runners ranks second in the ASUN.
Craska, a transfer first baseman from Georgia Tech, led the Lions in nearly every statistical category this season. The redshirt freshman led in batting average (.360), OPS (1.077), slugging percentage (.562), on-base percentage (.515), runs scored (32), hits (64), RBI (33), doubles (18), total bases (100), walks (43), hit by pitch (15), putouts (394) and fielding percentage (.995).
The redshirt freshman is sixth in the ASUN for batting average, seventh in slugging percentage, second in on base percentage and fourth in OPS.
Craska started and played in all 52 games during the regular season for UNA. He is currently tied for the single-season Division I doubles record with 18 so far this season, tied with
Andrew Knight in 2023. He is also three hits away from tying the most hits in a Division I season at UNA which was set by
Luke Harper in 2022 with 67.
Davenport, a freshman that attended James Clemens high school, appeared in 13 games this season with one start. He posted three wins and three saves during those games with a 3.52 ERA in 30.2 innings pitched. He allowed only 17 hits this season and struck out 35 different batters. When faced, opponents had a dismal .162 batting average against the freshman.
These three led the Lions to their first Division I 20-win season and their first ASUN Tournament berth since the transition. The trio lifted the Lions to their most conference wins during the Division I era.
