Women’s Basketball set for Wednesday showdown vs. Austin Peay

Lions look to maintain strong home record against Governors

FLORENCE, Ala. (February 4, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team is back home and in action Wednesday to compete against Austin Peay in CB&S Bank Arena.

Tipoff against the Governors is set for 6 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase through the North Alabama ticket office and on RoarLions.com.

Live stats will be provided by StatBroadcast, and the game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Grant Wakefield on the call and Chase Glover providing analysis. Arielle Schafer will
serve as the courtside reporter. There will not be a radio broadcast of this game.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the game, as parking is limited due to ongoing construction. As such, the lot near the Hal Self Athletic Annex will be unavailable. Violators will be towed if parked in the construction zone.

Lots A and B will be in the parking lot directly below Flowers Hall. Lot A pass holders will have coned off spots near the staircase. Shuttles will be available to take fans up to the field house lot for entry into CB&S Bank Arena.

Lot C parking will be in the parking lot below the Mitchell Burford Science and Technology Building. Residential Students will have access into Lot C with their hang tags. The public can also park in this lot for $12. Parking at the Bill Jones athletic complex will be unavailable. However, this lot is available as a drop off area near the arena.

Limited handicap parking will be available in front of the CB&S Bank Arena ticket office.

Due to worship services, the College View Church of Christ parking lot will be unavailable for this game. Fans are welcome to park at College View for sporting events except on Sundays and Wednesdays. Students, faculty and staff can park in the designated area Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama split two games in CB&S Bank Arena against Stetson and FGCU, with the Lions claiming a massive win Jan. 31 against FGCU. UNA defeated the defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions with a 60-55 victory, marking UNA's first over the Eagles in Florence and the first since Feb. 29, 2020, when FGCU was ranked No. 23 in the country.

SHE WON BOTH OF THEM!:
Senior Alexsandra Alvarado was named the ASUN's Women's Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week on Monday, Feb. 2. The Richmond, Calif. native led both games against Stetson and FGCU in scoring, including in UNA's win over the Eagles. Alvarado averaged 20 points and five assists per game, also providing solid defensive production with two steals per game. She became the first Lion to receive either honor this season while becoming the third in program history to win both simultaneously.

SCOUTING UNA:
The Lions' offense is led by a 40.1 percent shooting percentage. UNA has a slight advantage against opponents in shooting percentage – limiting opponents to 38.9 percent shooting. The Lions additionally lead in three-point percentage (29.3 percent - 28.8 percent), rebounds (757-742), assists (275-216), blocks (64-60) and steals (163-158). North Alabama has won five of their last six games – including four straight victories from Jan. 10-22 against Bellarmine, North Florida, Jacksonville and Queens. Alvarado (18.3 points per game), freshman Gabby Jackson (11.2 PPG) and senior India Howard (10.0 PPG) have spearheaded the offense during the run, along with sophomore Sofia Ceppellotti (9.8 PPG).

SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY:
 The Governors are 13-7 overall and 5-5 in the ASUN. Austin Peay goes for its first win since Jan. 24 after dropping previous bouts to North Florida and Jacksonville last time out. The Governors are a strong team on the road with a 10-0 record in away games. Austin Peay ranks first in the ASUN in defensive points per game (58.4) and offensive rebounds (14.7), second in steals (9.40) and third in field-goal percentage (43.3 percent). Anovia Sheals leads the team in scoring with 13.7 PPG – good for seventh in the conference.  Brittany Young leads Austin Peay in her fifth season.

SERIES HISTORY
: Austin Peay leads the series history over North Alabama, 5-4. The Governors took both meetings during the 2024-25 season with the Lions going for its first win since Feb. 24, 2024.

RIGHT UP HER ALLEY:
Alvarado sports a team-leading 12.9 points per game. She is also UNA's leader in assists (58), three-pointers made (41) and steals (32). Alvarado is tied for fifth in the ASUN in three-pointers made per game (2.1 per game), tied for ninth in assists per game (2.6) and 10th in scoring. Defensively, Alvarado is tied for seventh in steals per game (1.6).

SOFIA SHINES:
Ceppellotti is second on the team with 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore is tied for 14th in rebounding, tied for 15th in three-pointers made per game (1.4) and 18th in scoring in the ASUN.

GABBY GETS IT!:
Jackson is the team leader in total rebounds with 125 for a 6.3 average. She has had at least seven rebounds in nine games this season with the Kansas City, Mo. native 11th in the ASUN in rebounds per game. She earned back-to-back ASUN Player of the Week honors on Jan. 12 and Jan. 20.

BUKKY BUCKETS: 
Graduate Bukky Akinsola has shown veteran leadership in multiple parts of the game. Averaging 6.3 points per game, Akinsola has made her mark in the playmaking and defense category. She's second on the team in total assists (40) and has 19 steals on the season.

All INDIA, ALL THE TIME: Howard continues to produce on both ends of the floor with 6.7 points per game averages and 4.4 rebounds. She is the team's blocks leader with 19 on the season and leads in field-goal percentage at 56.3 percent. Howard totaled her 100th career block against South Alabama on Dec. 14, 2025.

COUNTING ON CRISWELL:
Junior Katie Criswell has been finding ways to produce on both ends as well. She's been the Lions' on-ball defensive specialist and has accumulated double-digits in both steals (15) and blocks (11). She's also provided timely scoring outputs throughout the season with a high of 17 points vs. EKU on Jan. 8.

NOTHING EASY: North Alabama gets it done on the defensive end with four players ranked on the ASUN's blocked shots leaderboard. Howard ranks tied for seventh at one per game while Ceppellotti and Criswell are tied for 19th with 0.6 per game. Senior Jazzy Klinge is tied for 24th at 0.5.
