NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: The UNA men's golf team competed in The Prestige last month, one of the most highly-sought after collegiate tournaments. The Lions took home a tie for sixth with No. 45 Northwestern as the final round of The Prestige was canceled due to gusts of wind that disrupted play. The Lions beat 11 top-100 ranked opponents in this tournament while being tied with one other — five being top-50 teams. North Alabama won out over teams such as No. 25 Wake Forest, No. 34 Clemson, No. 44 Little Rock and No. 46 Colorado, among others. This is now the fourth finalized two-round tournament of the season due to weather related issues and the third straight for North Alabama. On day two, UNA climbed the leaderboard up seven slots from their day one position of 13th. Every golfer surged 14 or more spots in the individual rankings in the second round. Junior Andrew Ferworn officially takes home an eighth-place tie with his one-under tournament — one of 11 players to shoot under par in the 120-man field. His 141 two-round total ties for fifth best for a Division I Two Round Individual Tournament total. The Houston, Texas native bested ranked players such as No. 7 Texas Tech's Connor Graham, No. 30 SMU's William Sides and No. 70 Wake Forest's Tom Haberer.
TEPID TWO ROUNDERS: North Alabama has encountered a lot of weather throughout this year. After their most recent tournament at The Prestige, the Lions finished that tournament in two rounds due to high gusts of winds. Before that, the Seabest Invitational had frigid weather that barely got above freezing completing that one in two rounds as well. During the fall season both the Cullan Brown Collegiate and the Florida Atlantic Invitational canceled the third-round due heavy rain and wet course conditions. The Lions are looking to complete their first three round tournament of the spring season.
THE BREAKDOWN: Florida State is the host school for the Seminole Intercollegiate where a total of 21 teams will compete. The tournament tees off Sunday at 7:30 a.m. CT by way of shotgun start. The Seminole Legacy Golf Club features an 18-hole, 7,505-yard par-72 course.
THE FIELD: Twenty-one teams will compete in the tournament in Tallahassee. Host Florida State will be joined by in-state programs such as Florida Atlantic and Stetson. Other power four programs include Penn State and Boston College. ASUN teams include Austin Peay, Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky along with Stetson and UNA. A slew of other teams such as Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Southern Illinois, Loyola-Maryland, Jacksonville State, Western Kentucky, Ball State, Troy, De Paul, Francis Marion, USC Upstate and Colgate join the mix.
LAST YEAR'S RESULTS: On Monday, March 10, UNA journeyed down to Thomasville, Ga. to play a part in this tournament a season ago. The team finished tied for third as one of five teams that shot under-par for the three-round tournament. The Lions beat out all other ASUN schools such as FGCU, Stetson and Lipscomb. Now-senior Xing Luo led the team as he finished seventh at four-under, while Sebastian Bengtsson had a successful tournament as he competed with the then No. 1 amateur in the world in Luke Clanton — who now plays on the PGA Tour.
No. 89: North Alabama did not compete in the past week, but that did not stop Scoreboard powered by Clippd from sliding them up four more spots to the 89th best team in the nation. To begin the 2025-26 season, the Lions ranked as the 97th best team. After its play at the Sea Best Invitational, UNA dropped to 103rd before a jump to 93rd as it claimed sixth at The Prestige tournament. According to available records, the Lions' best ranking came last season at 78th.
