Baseball sweeps Colonels on Sunday, 7-5

North Alabama owns second sweep of the season; Millard homers for second time this weekend

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 22, 2026) – The University of North Alabama baseball team swept Eastern Kentucky with its 7-5 win on Sunday at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium.

The Lions secured their third consecutive series over the Colonels dating back to last season; this is the second series sweep this season with Saint Louis being the other.

Since the transition to Division I, UNA now holds six Atlantic Sun series sweeps. Two of those sweeps have come in the last three conference series — EKU and Central Arkansas to end the 2025 regular season.

North Alabama (11-13, 4-2 ASUN) had 12 hits to create seven runs — the hit total slides into the second best role behind the 14 against Saint Louis on Feb. 21. The Lions batted .375, another second-place best on the season, behind the aforementioned game.

This is the ninth game with 10 or more hits; UNA is 7-2 in such instances now.

Catcher Will Millard and right fielder Wes Walker hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth to help wrangle a lead. This was Millard's second game this weekend with a home run and Walker's second consecutive game with one.

Eastern Kentucky (7-17, 2-4 ASUN) put a two-run home run shot in the first inning to take an early advantage. However, between starting pitcher Reese Young and John Allen Stogner, the two combined for five scoreless frames after the fact.

The Lions had five or less strikeouts in each game of the series this weekend with the lowest total coming on Sunday with three.

As the bats were hot, North Alabama hit .300 or better in every batting metric in the final game. Outside of overall hitting, the Lions hit .400 with two outs, .353 with runners on the bases, .375 from lead-off batters and .300 with runners in scoring position.

With two blasts on Sunday, this now marks the 10th multi-home run game this season. This gives UNA an ASUN-best 32 homers for the year.

Millard, Walker, Jackson Westmoreland and Leighton Jenkins had two or more hits — every Lion but two had at least one hit during the contest.

Jenkins had two RBI singles and tallied three total hits — a season high for the graduate shortstop.

Nash Rippen extended his on-base streak with his home run to 21 while Millard now stands at 19. Westmoreland has nine straight games with a hit, the longest on the team.

After Young and Stogner, Gavin Oswald, Justus Agosto, Jake Boynar and Tyler Rice cleaned up the game.

The Lions took the lead in the bottom of the eighth while Agosto was on the mound before Rice forced a pop up and two strikeouts to slam the door.
