North Alabama sweeps Austin Peay in Clarksville in mercy rule fashion, 15-5

This is the first sweep at Raymond C. Hand Park for Austin Peay since 2023

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (April 12, 2026) — The University of North Alabama baseball team dominated Austin Peay 15-5 on Sunday in eight innings to accomplish the sweep at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The Lions are now the first Gold division member to 10 conference wins, sitting in sole possession of first place.

Austin Peay had not been swept in Clarksville since April 28th through 30th of 2023 against Florida Gulf Coast.

North Alabama (17-18, 10-5 ASUN) owns their seventh sweep of a conference opponent during the Division I era. This is the fourth Division I era conference sweep completed on the road — the others were 2023 at Bellarmine, 2023 at Kennesaw State and 2025 at Central Arkansas.

This is the second conference sweep of the season for UNA with the other coming against Eastern Kentucky at home. In total, the Lions have three sweeps this season as the other came in non-conference play against Saint Louis in February. This is the first season since 2023 with three sweeps for the Lions.

Dylan Coleman's home run gave him his 12th for the season, now the league leader around the Atlantic Sun. He is three away from tying 2024 Gehrig Frei for the Division I single season record in home runs. The senior had one home run in each game this weekend in Clarksville.

While Coleman nears history, Nash Rippen etched his name into North Alabama all-time individual records. The senior left fielder reached base safely for the 32nd consecutive game, officially passing Luke Harper who set the milestone in 2022 at 31 straight games.

Austin Peay (16-20, 7-8 ASUN) had 13 hits for the afternoon but could only push five runs across. APSU pitchers combined for 10 walks for the Sunday slate which aided the Lions in scoring their second most runs in a game at 15.

North Alabama used 11 runs over the fifth and sixth inning to create the sizable lead before mercy ruling the Governors in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The 15 runs came from eight different Lions as Coleman (four) and Leighton Jenkins (three) led the charge. Coleman's four runs plated ties himself for the team season high for an individual in a game this season when he scored four times against Central Arkansas.

Justin Santoyo and Jenkins both shared three hit days while Santoyo notched four RBIs today. Jenkins cleared the bases in the fifth inning with his second triple of the year.

The Lion's 15 RBIs tied for the most in a game this season with the Feb. 18 Murray State, also a mercy rule win, and the April 4 Central Arkansas game.

Petey Craska and Coleman launched two more home runs against Austin Peay; now the seventh consecutive game with at least one home run. That is now 50 home runs blasted by UNA this season, pulling within six of the Division I era record set by the 2024 team.

Reese Young earned his second win of the season with his 4.2 innings of work with only six hits allowed. Sawyer Toney saw action for two outs before Tyler Rice joined the game with bases loaded.

Rice worked a ground ball to Santoyo at third who pitched it to Millard at home then back to Craska at first to neutralize the threat.

Defensively, the Lions made three double plays today like the one aforementioned which tied the most in a single game this season; the other came against Bellarmine on March 29.
