JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 20, 2026) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announce its weekly awards for softball on Monday, selecting University of North Alabama first baseman
Holly Merritt as the ASUN Player of the Week.
This marks the second time Merritt has won the award. She first won it on Feb. 17 during the second week of the regular season.
Merritt led the Lions to a three-game sweep of Austin Peay this weekend, batting 6-for-8 in the series. She also went 3-for-3 in a midweek game at Ole Miss. For the week, she finished 9-for-11 for an .818 batting average with six runs, five RBI, two homers and one double.
To boot, Merritt had a 1.455 slugging percentage and a .833 on-base percentage for the week.
This marks the fourth weekly honor for UNA this season with two from Merritt, one from senior pitcher
Katie Simon in February and one from junior
Briley Dover in March.
Merritt had two homers in a 7-5 win over the Govs in the second of three wins. She helped UNA hit a season-high five homers in that game and the most since 2022. She was also perfect in the field for the series with no errors on 10 putouts. UNA became the first team to sweep Austin Peay in three games since 2024.
Merritt is now batting .391 for the season with 14 homers. She ranks 10th in the ASUN for batting average and fourth in the ASUN for homers. She also ranks fifth with a .767 slugging percentage, fifth with 48 RBI and seventh with a 1.196 OPS.
Jacksonville's Jacy Harrelson won ASUN Pitcher of the Week.
The Lions, who are ranked in the D1Softball and Softball America mid-major polls, will play a three-game series at Central Arkansas this weekend, beginning Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
