Lions return to softball mid-major polls

UNA ranked No. 19 by D1Softball and No. 21 by Softball America

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 20, 2026) – The University of North Alabama softball team is ranked in two national mid-major poll this week after a one-week absence, returning to the D1Softball poll at No. 19 and the Softball America poll at No. 21.

This marks the third time in four weeks UNA has been nationally ranked by D1Softball and the second time in three weeks by Softball America. Softball America is a publication under the On3 and Rivals umbrella.

The Lions made a statement this weekend with a three-game sweep of Austin Peay. UNA became the first team to sweep Austin Peay in a three-game series in over two years, doing so with 5-4, 7-5 and 9-1 wins. The 9-1 win came via the five-inning mercy rule.

Overall, the Lions have a 31-12 record, marking the fifth-consecutive season with at least 30 wins.

UNA sits atop the Atlantic Sun Conference Gold Division standings with a 13-5 conference record — roughly a two-game lead over Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas in a tie for second at 11-5-1. The Colonels and Bears played each other this weekend and split two games before tying the final one due to a drop-dead time.

Stetson is the only other ranked ASUN team by both platforms — just two spots ahead of UNA in both polls. Central Arkansas is also ranked No. 20 in the D1Softball poll.

Over the weekend, UNA clinched an automatic bid to the 2026 ASUN Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. At this point, UNA will play for seeding and a division title. Six regular season games remain before the tournament on May 4-9.

UNA has a major test this weekend at Central Arkansas, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. The series ends Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lions will host Bellarmine for the final series on May 1-2.
