Walker homers for fifth straight game in loss to Bellarmine

Lions end Akers 27-game hit streak as Bellarmine evens series

FLORENCE, Ala. (May 2, 2026) — The University of North Alabama baseball dropped game two of the Bellarmine series, 15-8, at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium.

North Alabama (24-21, 15-8 ASUN) held shortstop Landon Akers hitless in today's contest in five plate appearances. This halted a 27-game hit streak by the sophomore who has been batting .378 this season.

Bellarmine (18-27, 10-13 ASUN) had seven runs in the third and five runs in the fourth inning to jump on UNA early. Relief pitchers allowed the Lions to score a few runs, but ultimately were able to hold UNA at bay to set up the Sunday rubber match.

Wes Walker was the highlight today with his 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth. He scored Petey Craska and Nash Rippen to notch a home run in his fifth straight game which dates back to the first game of the Eastern Kentucky series on April 24.

This is the first time that North Alabama has not hit two or more home runs in a game since the loss to Lipscomb on April 19, which ends a five game stretch.

Five of the Lions nine hits came with two outs for a .417 average. UNA hit .265 overall against Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon.

Tripp Patterson got the start on Saturday before Justin Battle came in for relief for the two to combine for three innings and four strikeouts.

Jake Boynar pitched the next 2.1 innings with two strikeouts while allowing two hits and two runs. Senior Hunter Bell closed the final 3.2 with three strikeouts while not allowing a hit or run for his time on the mound.
