Five Lions named CSC Academic All-District for Baseball

UNA Baseball places most selections in a season since 2019

GREENWOOD, Ind. (June 2, 2026) – College Sports Communicators (CSC) revealed the 2026 Academic All-District awards for baseball this week, as the University of North Alabama had five student-athletes earn honors.

The list for UNA is headlined by the two graduates, right-handed pitcher John Allen Stogner and left-handed pitcher Gavin Oswald. A sophomore trio bolsters the list with right fielder Wes Walker, right-handed pitcher Luke Davenport and left-handed pitcher Tripp Patterson.

All five are first-time selections for North Alabama while marking the most selections in a season with four being the recent high in 2024.

To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average and must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The athletic criteria include competing in 90 percent of games or starting 66 percent of games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.

The Lions have had one selection in both 2022 (Reid Homan) and 2025 (Brycen Parrish). In 2024, the Lions had Parrish, Jacob James, Jackson Ferrigno and Gehrig Frei.

Patterson (Sports Management), Oswald (MS Sports Management) and Stogner (MBA Information Systems) all earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the academic year. Walker, a double-major (Secondary Education & General Management) owns a 3.86 for next highest while Davenport secured a 3.80 as a Finance major.

Walker led North Alabama to the most home runs in the league (85), and in postseason play, the best batting average for a team that made it past Tuesday, with a .300. A season ago, UNA finished in 10th in batting through the 2025 season; these two lifted the Lions to the fifth-best batting average for the season.

The four pitchers combined to give North Alabama this fifth-best pitching staff in the ASUN with an ERA of 5.65. The Lions are the best ASUN Gold Division team in that metric against ASUN opponents this season behind the four Graphite Division postseason teams.

These five Lions were integral pieces to leading North Alabama to their most wins in a Division I season with 28 and the most ASUN conference wins with 19. The team earned its first share of a ASUN Gold Division title; this is the first time since 2005 that UNA claims a regular season or divisional title.

These five players led North Alabama to their first ASUN Championship Final appearance in Division I history against Lipscomb this season.
