FLORENCE, Ala. (August 23, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win thanks to junior Anna Fugarino's brace against Tennessee Tech on Sunday night at the Cox Creek Sports Complex.
North Alabama (2-0-1) had its second consecutive game where a Lion has scored two goals after Fugarino's bignight. Senior forward Parker Martin had her own this past Wednesday against Union.
Fugarino now matches Martin and Meg Welsh for the most goals on the team through three games with two apiece.
Tennessee Tech (2-1-1) was handed their first loss of the season as UNA keeper Emily Dorfman and the Lion backline kept the Golden Eagles scoreless. TTU had five corners with five shots on target as the team totaled 13 shots for the game.
North Alabama matched Tennessee Tech with 13 shots and bested the Golden Eagles with six on goal. After the enormous 12 corner night against Union on Wednesday, the Lions returned tonight to add four more.
Avery Smith, Gizelle El Assal and captain Charlotte Sobotka delivered a foot for the assists for the two Fugarino goals.
The Lions delivered their first clean sheet of the season, a task that was accomplished nine times in 2025. Dorfman had five saves, while the backline blocked three more shots and pushed the others off target.
These two programs have played four times through the Division I era, as this becomes UNA's first win in Florence. This win moves the all-time record to an even 3-3.
After this win, head coach Chris Walker notched the 107th win of his career. He now sits five wins away from becoming the all-time winningest coach in North Alabama history.
Before this season, the Lions had not had a player score two goals in a game since Alice Bussey in 2023 against Alcorn State — they now have two in back-to-back games.
This is the first time since 2022 that two different players had two goals in back-to-back games. Last accomplished by Alice Bussey in a 3-0 win against Kennesaw State on Oct. 6 and Chloe Fell in a 2-1 win against Jacksonville State on Oct. 9.
Last season, the Lion offense managed 18 goals all season. Now through three games the Lions own 11 goals, an average of 3.67 per game.
Nineteen Lions found playing time in this one as four freshman made their way onto the pitch. Adelyn Speight, Lilly Ford, Gracie Tyrrell and Dorfman competed all 90 minutes of the game. Freshman forward Carolyn Federlee had three shots from the reserves with two on target.
North Alabama takes a week to rest before battling Southeast Missouri on Sunday, August 30 at 1 p.m. at Cox Creek Sports Complex.
