LIONS GET 93-81 EXHIBITION WIN OVER OAKWOOD

FLORENCE – Sharwyn McGee scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 93-81 exhibition win over Oakwood Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The junior from Greensboro, N.C., was 10-of-11 from the floor and added two assist and a blocked shot.
 
UNA led 45-36 at the half but could never put the game out of reach over the final 20 minutes of play. The Lions led by as many as 15 in the second half. Consecutive free throws by DeAndre McKinnie gave UNA a 64-49 lead with 13:29 remaining. The Ambassadors, however, would not go away.
 
Oakwood cut the lead to 10 on four different occasions down the stretch but could never get within single digits.
 
North Alabama shot 55.9 percent from the floor and held a commanding 46-28 advantage in points in the paint. The Ambassadors countered with nine three-point baskets and went 28-of-61 from the floor.
 
Nine total players scored for the Lions on the night, including five in double figures. Jeff Hodge added 17 points while Johnell Ginnie scored 14 points for UNA. Dimario Jackson and Austin Timms rounded out the top scorers with 12 points each.
 
UNA will return to regular-season action on Nov. 19 at home against Cumberland. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
