UNA WOMEN TOP WEST ALABAMA 68-60

FLORENCE –North Alabama forced 29 turnovers in a 68-60 home win over West Alabama Thursday in Gulf South Conference women's basketball action. The Lions converted to miscues into 22 points to remain undefeated on the season at 8-0, including a 2-0 mark in GSC play.
 
UNA led 41-34 in the closing minutes of the third quarter before utilizing its full-court press to start an 8-0 run. The pressure led to transition baskets by Ivy Wallen, Jaclyn Heath and Katelyn Nunley to extend the lead to 49-34 with 1:09 remaining in the period.
 
The lead reached 16 in the fourth quarter before the Tigers were able to close the gap with one final spurt. After a jumper by Michaela DeKilder gave UNA a 58-42 lead, the Lions when nearly three minutes without scoring. A 10-0 West Alabama cut the deficit to 58-52 before Elise Holden found Nunley cutting through the lane for a reverse layup.
 
The Lions then got a stop on defense before Wallen hit two free throws to push the lead to 62-52 with 1:45 remaining. UWA would get no closer than six down the stretch.
 
Wallen led all scorers with 25 points. KeKe Gunter added 14 points for the Lions while Heath finished with 11 points. DeKilder also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
 
West Alabama's 29 turnovers was a season-high. The Tigers (3-5 overall, 0-2 GSC) were led by Ariel Wilson's 17 points.
 
UNA will host West Georgia on Monday. Tip-off time is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
